Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Auckland

On arrival in Auckland, ‘The City of Sails’, proceed to your hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Our local representative will meet Seat-in-Coach passengers and assist them to their hotel by private transfer. Guests on the self-drive tour itinerary can collect their rental car at the airport and enjoy the drive to their hotel. Overnight in Auckland.

Day 2

Auckland Sightseeing

After breakfast, set out on a Morning Sightseeing Tour of Auckland City to visit sights such as Harbour Bridge, Auckland Viaduct, Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park and Waitemata Harbour. Overnight in Auckland.

Day 3

Auckland – Waitomo – Rotorua

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel, bid farewell to the ‘City of Sails’ and travel south through the fertile Waikato region to Waitomo for a guided tour of the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves. On completion, continue over the forested Mamaku Ranges to reach the ‘Thermal City’ of Rotorua. On arrival, proceed to hotel for check-in. Overnight in Rotorua.

Day 4

Rotorua

After breakfast, set out to explore Rotorua; visit Te Puia Thermal Reserve to see boiling mudpools and roaring geysers and Rainbow Springs to see New Zealand’s trout, birds and wildlife before continuing to the Agrodome for a New Zealand farm show featuring sheep dog demonstrations, cow milking and an introduction to the stars of our sheep industry. The afternoon is at leisure. In the evening, enjoy an authentic Maori Hangi feast (dinner) and Concert. Overnight in Rotorua.

Day 5

Rotorua – Wellington

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and continue on your tour. Depart from Rotorua and proceed to Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand and the next stop of the Best of New Zealand tour package. Travel south to reach the popular lake resort of Taupo before continuing on the Desert Road, dominated in the background by the three peaks of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. Continue south through farmland to arrive at the ‘Capital City’ of Wellington. On arrival, proceed to hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Overnight in Wellington.

Day 6

Wellington

After breakfast, you are at leisure to enjoy the many activities available. Highly recommended is a visit to Te Papa, New Zealand’s National Museum. Optional activities not included in tour price. Overnight in Wellington.

Day 7

Wellington – Picton – Kaikoura

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and proceed to travel across the Cook Strait and into the Marlborough Sounds with its sparkling clear waters and lush forests, before arriving in Picton in South Island. (The Cook Strait separates the North and South Islands of New Zealand). Travel south through the town of Blenheim, before reaching Kaikoura – here you might like to take an optional whalewatch cruise or scenic flight before/after checking in at your hotel. Optional activities not included in tour price. Overnight in Kaikoura.

Day 8

Kaikoura – Christchurch

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and continue on your tour to Christchurch. Leaving Kaikoura behind, turn inland and travel through North Canterbury to reach the ‘Garden City’ of Christchurch. On arrival, proceed to hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Overnight in Christchurch.

Day 9

Christchurch – Mt Cook – Queenstown

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and travel across the fertile Canterbury Plains to Lake Tekapo to visit the ‘Church of the Good Shepherd’ before continuing on to New Zealand’s highest mountain – Mt Cook; thereon, follow the shores of Lake Pukaki south through the historic Central Otago Region to the ‘Alpine Resort’ of Queenstown. On arrival, proceed to hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Overnight in Queenstown.

Day 10

Milford sound

After breakfast, enjoy an excursion to Milford Sound. Follow the southern arm of Lake Wakatipu to Lake Te Anau via Lumsden. Thereon, enter the Eglinton Valley and travel through the Homer Tunnel to reach Milford Sound, where you can enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord dominated by Mitre Peak and the cascading Bowen Falls. Return to Queenstown. Overnight in Queenstown.

Day 11

Queenstown

No activities are scheduled for today, leaving you free to explore the endless optional attractions available in Queenstown such as bungee jumping, jet boating, white-water rafting, gondola rides and much more. Optional activities not included in the tour price. Breakfast is included. Overnight in Queenstown.

Day 12

Queenstown – Glacier Region

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and depart from Queenstown. Travel via Lake Wanaka and through the historic Haast Pass, the gateway to the World Heritage Westland National Park; continue up the West Coast past spectacular mountain ranges, native forests and lakes to the glacier region of Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. On arrival, proceed to hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Overnight in Glacier Region.

Day 13

Glacier Region

No activities are scheduled for today, leaving you free to explore the magnificent glacier region after breakfast. Optional activities include a scenic flight or guided walk on one of the glaciers. Optional activities not included in the tour price. Overnight in Glacier Region.

Day 14

Glacier Region – Greymouth – Christchurch

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel, travel north to Greymouth and board the world famous Tranz Alpine train (seat-in-coach passengers only). Ascend through lush beech forests past the alpine village of Arthur’s Pass before crossing the spectacular Southern Alps. Travel over Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. On arrival, proceed to hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Overnight in Christchurch.

Day 15

Departure day

After breakfast, board a departure transfer or drive your rental car back to the airport in time to board your flight back home or on to the next destination. Guests on the self-drive itinerary will have to deposit the rental car with the rental office at the airport and complete all formalities before boarding their flight.
