Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Chennai

The city has a colonial heritage dating back to the 17th century when here first the Portuguese and then the British went ashore. Afternoon tour of Chennai includes visit to, Fort St. George, built by the British to defend the trading post, as well as St. Mary’s, the first church on Indian soil. We also visit two important museums. The National Art Gallery and the Madras Government Museum. Drive along the promenade Marina, visit the impressive San Thome Cathedral, the Mylapore temple. Later transfer to the Hotel. Overnight hotel stay in CHENNAI.

Day 2

Chennai – Kanchipuram ( Approx 76 kms 1 Hours drive) and Kanchipuram- Mahabalipuram ( Approx 71 Kms )

Arrive Chennai, meet and transfer to the respective hotel. Room reserved at hotel from 1400 Hrs. Breakfast at hotel, followed with check out and drive to Mamallapuram. Enroute we visit Kanchipuram, one of the seven sacred cities of India. There are more than one hundred temples. Some are over 1400 years old. Visit the kailasanathar temple. The town is also famous for its silk fabric. Lunch at local restaurant. Continue to Mamallapuram , on arrival by early evening check in and free time. Overnight stay at hotel in MAHABALIPURAM.

Day 3

Mahabalipuram – Pondicherry ( Approx 138 Kms – 03 Hours Drive)

We visit Mamallapuram, an open air museum with beautiful monuments. The most famous landmark is the shore temple which stands along the sea for 12 centuries. The group monolithic temples and buildings are known throughout the world and have inspired generations of temple builders. Later we drive to Pondicherry. This city is so different from the rest of India! The city was French from 1674 to 1954. The French colonial life is still clearly present, the street, French bakeries and beautiful old buildings. Visit the Aurobindo Ashram, Manakula vinayagar temple, and a walking tour of the Colonial white town over the Promenade. Overnight at hotel in PONDICHERRY.

Day 4

Pondicherry – Chidambaram – Kumbakonam

Breakfast at hotel. Check out and drive to Chidambaram, a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is world renowned for the annual dancing festival of Bharatanatiyam for which participants will be from all over the world. Proceed further for the Dharasuram temple located near to the Kumbakonam and night stay at Kumbakonam. Overnight at hotel in KUMBAKONAM.

Day 5

Kumbakonam -Tanjore (Approx 230 Kms -06 Hours drive)

Thanjavur or Tanore as it is known, is the ancient capital of the Chola kings and represents all that they have to put in the fields of architecture, art and government. In the morning we visit the city and the beautiful Brihadeshwara temple, believed to be the largest temple ever built in India. Visit the Palace and bronze ideal making units. Overnight at hotel in TANJORE.

Day 6

Tanjore – Trichy (60kms / 01 hour drive approx) Trichy – Madurai (150kms/03hrs )

Breakfast at hotel. Check out and drive towards Madurai we visit the vibrant city of Trichy. Visit the fort, located 90 mts above sea level and dominates the area. At the top is a popular Ganesha temple. Then visiting the island of Srirangam. The temple dedicated to Vishnu is a city in itself and attracts many pilgrims. Later we travel to Madurai, the temple city with its numerous pilgrims and religious activity. In the evening we attend the evening ceremony ‘Aarti’ at the magnificent Meenakshi Temple. Shiva statue is then brought in procession to the chamber of the goddess Meenakshi. Overnight at hotel in MADURAI.

Day 7

Madurai

Morning proceed for the Meenakshi temple, it was built during the period of the Nayaks (10th-18th century) and counts as much as 33 million sculptures. We also visit the magnificent palace of Thirumalai Nayak, the most famous king of the Nayak dynasty. Evening at leisure. Overnight at hotel in MADURAI.

Day 8

Madurai – Chennai – Departure

Early Breakfast at hotel, check out. Proceed to Madurai airport to connect your flight for Chennai and onward International return flight.
